It is getting towards the end of summer as the Department of Defense transitions to FY2018 and the Air Force is wrapping up the year on the funding side, leading to a need to start thinking about the future as 2019 gets underway.
As the service seeks to fill its remaining positions, the Department of Defense sent out a memo that called for shifts in personnel and the Air Force indicated it was hoping to shift 3,500 or more positions over the next three years.
However, the Air Force has to also think about the services it needs to fill out its mission, and the command said the service is looking at the need for a new weapons lab, test ranges, as well as pilot and combat crew training.
And the Air Force is looking to the future for ways it can improve training.
A concept video that was recently released by the Air Force shows aircraft taking to the skies of the simulated world of virtual reality.
The video shows fighter pilots in training in a mission against an enemy to the Air Force’s liking.
However, the performers are in an environment that may not be close to reality as the environment is created in a virtual environment.

While the environment looks realistic, the equipment they are using in training is not.
However, the concept video looks to change that with the development of new helmet and sensors in the near future, with the Air Force having shown interest in the idea in the past.
The video itself is fairly entertaining, showing the fighter pilots go through a mission-planning process that looks toward the future.
However, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein is pushing the service to take a completely different approach to training.
“I think we have to push the envelope with the training. I think that’s one of the key improvements,” Goldfein said in a speech. “The actions of our airmen need to be technologically proficient and that is exciting because the knowledge contained in the military knowledge that we are developing, not only with the new technology but the revolutionary ideas contained in our technology, will give 0b46394aab
