The second season of South Park, an American animated television series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, began airing on April 1, 1998. The second season concluded after 18 episodes on January 20, 1999; it remains the longest season of South Park to date.[1] Almost all the episodes were directed by series co-creator Trey Parker, with the exception of two episodes directed by Eric Stough.
The first season of the show concluded with the episode \"Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut\", broadcast on Comedy Central in the United States on February 25, 1998, and had a cliffhanger ending regarding the identity of Cartman's father. The episode scheduled for April 1, 1998 promised to resolve the mystery,[2][3] but was in fact an April Fools' Day joke on the creator's part: \"Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus\", an entire episode revolving around the two title characters.[4] The April 1 episode was supposed to be a one-off, with the rest of the season starting in May.[2][5] However, following overwhelmingly negative fan reaction, the episode resolving the Cartman's father storyline, \"Cartman's Mom Is Still a Dirty Slut\", was moved from its planned May 20 air date to April 22.[4][6] \"Ike's Wee Wee\" then started a six-episode weekly run of the season when it was broadcast on May 20.[7][4][8][9][10]
The show went on a summer break of a month and a half, and returned for another six-episode run on August 19, with the episode \"Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls\". The next installment came after a three-week break, with the Halloween episode \"Spookyfish\", which aired on October 28. The next two episodes were \"Merry Christmas, Charlie Manson!\" and \"Gnomes\", airing on December 9 and 16 respectively. The final episode of the season, \"Prehistoric Ice Man\" aired after five weeks of hiatus, on January 20, 1999. The third season then started a few months later, in April 1999.
In this season, Cartman discovers his dad is his mom, Kyle finds out his brother Ike is from Canada and Mr. Garrison replaces Mr. Hat with a new puppet called Mr. Twig. This season began with some controversy when it aired \"Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus\" instead of the conclusion to \"Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut\". This season also has the most episodes up to date, with eighteen episodes.
This is the first season of the show, and only from the first twenty-two, for which Trey Parker and Matt Stone have never recorded commentaries, possibly due to the commentaries from the previous set being edited and released only as a separate disc. While discussing this fact in the Season Three commentaries that suggest that they considered this season to be poor.
The show's ratings reached a significant peak in the second season at an unmatched 5.5 million viewers for the season premiere. Trey and Matt have attributed this to the media hype that surrounded the show, feeling the 3.4 million viewers that the third season onward averaged was more representative of the show's \"true\" fan base.[1]
According to Unogs, at least 30 Netflix regions carry South Park. All of which are seeing notices showing on every season for the show to expire on March 27th, 2022 (last day to watch being March 26th).
South Park has disappeared from Netflix internationally before. As our friends at NewonNetflix.info documents, the series was available between 2013 and 2014 before being removed. It was then added again in 2019 with new and old seasons filtering off the platform every year since.
South Park has finally returned to Comedy Central for Season 26 of the series, and the series has given fans the first look at what's next with the teaser for the next episode! After 25 seasons of the series, South Park is still keeping itself fresh as the premiere episode managed to tackle one of the biggest things that happened while the series was on break. Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker and their team took on everything happening with Kanye West, and molded it back into the ongoing story they have been telling between Kyle and Tolkien in the season and specials before.
The end of the episode saw Kyle returning to Stan and his usual friend group, and it seems like that will help to spark what's coming next. The teaser for Episode 2 of the new season is setting up South Park's take on everything that's gone down with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since the end of the 25th season, and it's already starting to bother Kyle. You can see just that in the tease for Episode 2 of the season below as shared by South Park Studios:
Episode 2 of South Park's 26th Season is titled \"Worldwide Privacy Tour,\" and currently scheduled to premiere on Comedy Central this Wednesday, February 15 at 10:00PM EST. It's yet to be revealed how many episodes this newest season will be running, nor have the next slate of specials been announced for Paramount+ as of this writing. But that also means there's plenty of time to jump back into the new episodes as they air.

This deep retcon of the name is incredibly thorough, but that's also in line with South Park's core values. The full update of Tolkien's name brings the show in line with the times no matter the season in which viewers join while taking the joke as far as it can go is a classic move in South Park's comedic style. With \"The Big Fix,\" South Park retcons a past controversy and its humor in a meta way. The chastising delivered to the audience via the doctor's fourth-wall break is really directed at the show's creators, who obviously did name the character Token Black back in South Park season 2. While retconning can't undo some of the series' questionable past decisions and controversies, South Park has at least proven it isn't above pointing out its own mistakes and cleaning them up thoroughly.
Originally aired in 1998, the second season is where South Park really came together, as Comedy Central knew they had a hit on their hands and threw more money into the series. Although still the same construction-paper inspired program, the animation is tighter, the visuals are brighter and the overall quality just looks better.
The writing in the second season still tests the bounds of good taste, which is exactly what you want out of South Park. This is the season where we learned who Cartman's dad, uh, mom, uh...let's just skip it -- it's a little confusing. In my opinion, some of the best episodes from the entire series can be found in this collection. Chickenlover, Chef's Salty Chocolate Balls and Gnomes are some of my favorites, and although some aren't as good as others, there are really no complete slackers in this collection.
The best extra is a 50-minute BBC \"making of\" special entitled \"Goin' Down to South Park\" featuring Matt and Trey in a hot tub with their Japanese houseboy. Not only is it hilarious, but it's also informative, as you learn a lot about how the show is produced, created and what the South Park offices look like. The documentary was actually shot in 1999, during the second season, so it's kind of neat to see something historical about the cast and crew from the same period as the episodes in the collection.
Like the first collection, there are sadly no included commentary tracks for any of the episodes. I also haven't seen anything about a separate commentary CD like was available for the first collection. That's too bad since, judging from the first season commentary, it would have you laughing your ass off.
There are so many great episodes of South Park in season 2, but which are your absolute favorite This list ranks every episode of South Park season 2 from best to worst, with the help of your votes.
The second season of South Park premiered on April 1, 1998, and consisted of 18 episodes. Season 2 of South Park garnered its first Annie nomination (\"Outstanding Animated Primetime or Late Night Television Program\").
Stone and Parker voice most of the male South Park characters.[2][7] Mary Kay Bergman voiced the majority of the female characters until her death in 1999, near the end of the third season.[8] Eliza Schneider and Mona Marshall succeeded Bergman in 1999, and respectively 2000, with Schneider leaving the show in 2003, after the seventh season.[8] She was replaced by April Stewart, who, along with Marshall, continues to voice most of the female characters.[8] Bergman was originally listed in the credits under the alias Shannen Cassidy to protect her reputation as the voice of several Disney characters.[16] Stewart was originally credited under the name Gracie Lazar,[17] while Schneider was sometimes credited under her rock opera performance pseudonym Blue Girl.[18] 59ce067264
