Step 2: To get the bios update to work, you need to add a bios setting to the boot options. You will need to use a BIOS utility to add a bios setting. You can try an older version of the bios updater software from hp support, or you can use the dd method. If you are unsure, I suggest the dd method. After the dd method is complete, reboot and select the USB stick to start the upgrade.
Step 3: After the bios update completes successfully, you will need to reboot, and select the boot device to be the usb stick. You will need to do this twice because my bios does not allow me to boot from a USB stick if the current system is booted. If you have a restore point set, you can use it to return to the previous bios setting.
You will need to update your bios before you try this. You will also need to create a bootable USB stick. You can either use the dd method or use windows 10 to create a bootable USB stick. The dd method is easier to understand and requires less computer tools. The windows method is almost certainly easier for most people, but I used dd and it worked fine.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm new to Linux, but I've been using Ubuntu on and off for years. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, or if it's just me. I'm not aware of any updates to the bios updater software or firmware for new HP computers. I'm trying to update the bios and it's not working. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.
I was going to upgrade using the file /boot/efi/EFI/HP/DEVFW/firmware.bin. I had to move that file first to the /boot/efi/EFI/HP/BIOS/New folder. Then I restarted and the bios updater worked fine. I can't test if the bios is upgraded and I have not rebooted yet. But I think it has. I had a lot of trouble this last time, but hopefully it's easier now. I'm planning to do a clean install of Ubuntu 20.04 after I get my printer working. I'm not sure what will happen to the 20.04 partition, but I'm pretty sure it will delete the partition and make a new one because my printer is not connected to the computer.
