Hi there,I'm not familiar with GPSMAP 66sr, I've been using the Garmin GPSMap 66 for bike and MTB navigation, but it's very bulky so I stopped using it as a GPS device and used a separate GPSMAP 64 with a map of Europe and saved maps. I've also been using sextant and found it easy to use, it's not as 'intuitive' as the mobile devices but if you're not a GPS nerd they're great.Thanks,- Valentin
I have heard about the Garmin GPS Map 66sr and its reliability, but I have also heard about the bad weather performance. I am planning to go for a bike tour in europe between august and November. Does it perform well in the rain?Many thanks.
Another good way to explore is to go to a town or region where you haven’t been before. On the GPSMAP 66i, the map of Europe is updated daily, so when you search for a location you can see the most recent map. It’s a great way to find your way around.
You’ve asked about the continental coverage of the 66i – it has very good coverage of the USA, Canada and Mexico. Coverage of Europe, Japan and Australia is less than ideal. If you’re an MTB/bike-touring enthusiast and you’re into the Alps or European mountains, then you’ll like the GPSMAP 66sr. If you’re more interested in North and Central America, then you’ll be disappointed with the 66i.
I dont think I would get a 30x for bikepacking in the Alps. You will be carrying 20-25kg on your back. I would guess that in Europe you will also travel light and so a 30x would be overkill. You probably dont want to carry a bikepacking GPS to use on the road and a GPSMAP 66sr is also good for bikepacking on roads in Europe. BTW the new Instinct Tracker Android app is also nice for bikepacking.
