Google has literally changed the way we see and interact with the world around us. From the introduction of Google Earth, to Google Maps, to Google My Business Listings, the search engine is constantly rolling out exciting new features to make the world more interconnected than ever. That said, sometimes their updates — no matter how well-intentioned — aren't exactly welcome. Or indeed useful. Take the new Google Ads automatic location extensions, for example. This feature was rolled out quietly to help generate more calls to local businesses. Unfortunately, Google's approach means that these Auto Ad Extensions might actually hurt your marketing rather than help it. In this article, we take a look at what the new automatic ad extension updates mean, analyze the impact it could have on your marketing, and describe how to bypass these automatic extensions with our Google My Business (GMB) integration. Brief Overview of Google Auto Ad Extensions Google likes to be able to give searchers as much information about your business as possible. For example, you may run Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads, but have decided not to employee email database create your own GMB listing. You don't see the point yet - PPC ads work great as is. However, you suddenly notice that all of your ads contain a small snippet detailing your office address, also known as a location extension. It's a bit confusing given that you certainly didn't add this information on purpose - you run your business from home and therefore generally like to keep this information quite private. Unfortunately, Google automatically decided to add this location extension because they think it will help you attract more customers. If someone in the area sees you are just down the road then they will be more likely to go for you. Law? Potentially, but you might still be slightly surprised that Google added this information to your account (and your ads) without asking. He managed to find your address, buried deep in your website's return policy page, and splashed that snippet all over your ads.
